In late October, Attorney Navid Alband took part in a community panel for Red Ribbon Week, answering questions from Upper School students and their parents on the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. The panel was part of the Parent Faculty Association Conversations that Count program.
Red Ribbon Week is an annual, nationwide campaign to raise drug, alcohol, and violence awareness in our communities. Red Ribbon Week was founded in 1988 to commemorate the the heroic efforts of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena who gave his life to expose a multi-million dollar narcotics ring. Since then, the campaign has been held to further prevent violent and drug or alcohol-related crimes, particularly among our nation's young people.
Attorney Alband was joined by an addiction specialist, an emergency room doctor, a police sergeant, and a recovering addict on the panel. A Q&A session was held of the Upper School students, with a separate session for the students' parents conducted afterwards. The focus of the parents' session was how to communicate the risks of drug and alcohol use to their teenagers.
